AI should be viewed as a powerful analytical assistant – a tool that can offer suggestions, identify patterns, and broaden human perspectives – but not as an infallible decision-maker. For example, in medicine, radiologists have started using AI to flag potential tumors on scans. The best results occur when radiologist and AI work in tandem, each compensating for the other’s limitations. In one study of breast cancer detection, an AI system spotted subtle pixel-level anomalies that humans missed, while human doctors caught contextual nuances the AI couldn’t perceive; together they achieved about 90% accuracy, outperforming either alone (Combination of Artificial Intelligence & Radiologists More Accurately Identified Breast Cancer | NYU Langone News).
